The Daily Double Bet is a twist on the basic WIN bet: instead of just picking one winning horse in one race, you must pick two winning horses in two consecutive races. If you are successful, you will win a substantial payout. The odds of winning a daily double are long compared to a simple WIN bet for one race, but not completely out of reach for a savvy horse bettor.
In most cases, the Daily Double bet costs $2, although some horse tracks allow a $1 daily double wheel bet. For the purposes of simplicity, assume that your online racebook offers $2 Straight Daily Double bets.
Sample procedure for how to make a Daily Double bet at a horse racebook
1. First, make sure you select the "Daily Double" betting option from your horse racebook's wagering menu. You should see a list of multiple races.
2. Note the horses listed in the race, usually on the left hand side of the screen. The column to the right lists the odds - the "ML" column in the above diagram.
3. Make your pick for the horse that will win Race 7, followed by the horse that will win Race 8 (Race numbers from diagram above). In this diagram, the horse with 5:1 odds has been picked to win Race 7, followed by the horse with 6:1 odds to win Race 8.
4. ***Notes: To make a successful daily double bet, you must pick two winners of two consecutive races. Example: $2 Straight Daily Double Bet
Most daily double bets cost $2 or multiples of $2. If you're betting a daily double for the first time, bet the lowest amount possible - usually $2 - until you're more comfortable making quinella wagers.
Example Bet: $2 Straight Daily Double on Horse 5 winning Race 1 and Horse 4 winning Race 2 means your bet wins if and only if Horse 5 wins Race 1 AND Horse 4 wins Race 2.
Daily Double Variant: Daily Double Wheel Betting
Advanced horse bettors might opt to try their luck with Daily Double Wheel betting, where it's possible to select multiple horses from each of the two consecutive races to win. This lowers the overall risk of the bet, while still giving the bettor a nice win if his or her horses come in.
The Daily Double "Key" Concept
Understanding "keying" horses into your Daily Double Wheel is crucial to making a successful bet.
Start with the first race. Select a horse or set of horses that you think will win Race 1. For example, if horses 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are in Race 1, you could choose any one of the six to place first OR some combination of the six to place first.

Example 1st Race 1st Horse Key is: Horse 4
If horse 4 wins Race 1, this means your first race daily double key was successful.
Example 2nd Race 2nd Horse Key is: Horses 3, 7, 8
If horse 3 OR horse 7 OR horse 8 wins Race 2, this means your second race daily double key was successful.
Example Winning Combination with our Keys: 4 & 8
Given the keys we created above, a race result of horse 4 placing first in Race 1 and horse 8 placing first in Race 2 would produce a winning Daily Double bet.
Example Losing Combination with our Keys: 6 & 5
Given the keys we created above, a race result of horse 1 placing first in Race 1 and horse 5 placing first in Race 2 will fail because we did not include the 1 horse in our first Daily Double key, nor did we include the 5 horse in our second Daily Double key. Both keys must win in order to collect a payout. Otherwise, if one or both keys fail, you lose your wager.

Daily Double Wheel Bets Cost $1 or $2
Consider the following examples, where we've keyed select horses into the win positions for two consecutive races.
Example 1: You believe horse 8 will win Race 1 and that is your first key. Next, you believe one of horses 6-11-13 will win Race 2 and that is your second key. This bet would cost $6.
Daily Double Example #1 Wheel Combinations on horses 8 then 6-11-13 at $2 each:

Example 2: You believe either horse 1 or 4 will win Race 1, followed by horse 2, 3, or 5 winning Race 2.
Daily Double Example #2 Wheel Combinations on horses 1-4 winning Race 1, then 2-3-5 winnings Race 2:
Set 1 (Horses 1, 2) = $2
Set 2 (Horses 1, 3) = $2
Set 3 (Horses 1, 5) = $2
Set 4 (Horses 4, 2) = $2
